The Story

Ok Cupid had it in for this couple. Despite Jon living in San Francisco and Sharon being 80 miles away in Davis, Jon sent Sharon an email on November 12, 2010, as she was clearly both intelligent (being in vet school) and gorgeous! Sharon received his message and smiled from ear to ear as she was most definitely interested in this guy who was both intelligent (having a PhD from Stanford) and handsome with the most incredibly warm smile.

Despite Sharon's multiple attempts to meet up, Jon kept coming up with excuses but they remained in contact, emailing, texting, etc. In January 2011, Jon finally built up the courage to meet up. His friends planned to go skiing in Tahoe and he asked Sharon if she'd be interested in going. Despite a looming exam, she agreed but the two of them decided that it might be better to meet up before skiing to chat. Jon drove to Davis where he had a friend to stay with and worked on a paper during the day on January 20th while Sharon was in class and then they met up for mojito night at Bistro 33 at 8:47 after Sharon finished rock climbing.

Instantly there was a strange level of familiarity and comfortability that both of them felt. Within 5 minutes of meeting, Jon broke a cardinal rule of dating and whipped out his iPhone to check to see if their astrological signs were "compatible" -- and they were. They stayed at the restaurant til closing then began walking around when Jon got the urge to play pool. He grabbed her hand and excitedly ran across the street and into a bar. After teaming up and accepting a challenge from another couple in the bar, Jon won the game single handedly. It was getting late but Jon still wanted to go to another bar. Sharon was sober and wanted to be able to drive home, so she suggested going back to her apartment for drinks, which they did.

And that was the beginning of the 5 day date. Though Jon didn't even muster up the courage to kiss Sharon for days, things went perfectly! Over the following days, the two met some of each other's friends, went skiing, ate yummy food, watched movies and competed in Trivia Night. A couple of weeks later, Jon would meet Sharon's family in San Francisco as they were visiting from New York. And within 3 months, Jon would [conveniently] move from San Francisco to Davis for a post-doctoral position at UC Davis.

And the rest is history!
